Paul is Managing Director of Maui Capital and Chairman of the Investment Committee of Maui Capital’s Indigo Fund.
Paul has more than 30 years’ private equity, turnaround, senior management and corporate finance experience. Prior to establishing Maui Capital in 2008, he was Head of Private Equity at Goldman Sachs JBWere NZ, where he established and had overall management responsibility for that firm’s private equity activities, including as Principal Executive Director of the Hauraki No. 1 and No. 2 Funds (2001-2007).
Paul is currently Chairman of the BJ Ball Group and Euro Corporation and a director of Freshmax, Diversified Mining Services and ASX-listed Norfolk Group (ASX:NFK). He is a past Chairman or director of Hirepool, Tiri Group, Guardian Healthcare, BILDNZ Group and Vision Senior Living, as well as Sea + City Projects Limited (a company set up by Auckland Regional Holdings to oversee the development of the Western Viaduct on Auckland’s waterfront).
Prior to his career in private equity, Paul held a number of senior roles in New Zealand and Europe across multiple industries, including at Fletcher Challenge Energy, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Barings. These roles focused on (amongst other things) finance management, treasury operations, turnaround management, mergers & acquisitions, valuation, performance management, investment strategy, strategy reformulation, commodity trading and hedging operations, high-risk investment analysis, international securitisations and structure and mezzanine debt products.
Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland, during the completion of which he won a number of senior prizes, including the Alfred P Foggarty Award for excellence in Economics. He is married to Chris and has 2 children attending local schools.
